· Teaching that impacts is not head to head, but heart to heart.
· Referring to Socrates’ summary of the essence of communication: ethos [character/credibility], pathos [compassion] and logos [word/content], Hendricks treats them like a pyramid, where each is dependent upon the previous.
· The foundation/credentials of a teacher are his/her character and credibility. There will not be the confidence in the teacher unless the student trusts in you.
· Second, the student needs to know that the teacher cares about him.
· The third is content that produces the learner’s perception and understanding.
· All learning is geared toward change, and needs to be motivated by needs.
· In order to be a person of impact, a teacher must know his students, earn the right to be heard, and be willing to be vulnerable with his students.
